Phone lovin’: The popular trend of phone customization

Posted by admin on May 31, 2008 in Nothing But Hardware

One of the most popular pastimes and hobbies of a big majority of mobile phone owners are customizing their phones. Personalizing a mobile phone has grown into a multi-billion dollar business worldwide. People are willing to pay for themes, wallpapers, casings, and various types of ringtones in order to make their mobile phones stand out from the rest. They even buy various accessories, charms and nifty little holders to complete their phone’s look.

What compels people to spend money just to customize a piece of electronic equipment?

One of the most compelling reasons that have been forwarded by researchers regarding the obsession with mobile phone customization is that mobile phones have the capability to be contextual. Because of its portability, people can carry mobile phones wherever they go. They can bring it to a business meeting, to a date, into movies, on a vacation, even to church - it has become a permanent fixture of our daily lives. This pervasive nature of mobile phones and “ready at hand” characteristic can make people establish a certain bond with their mobile phones. This “connection” can be manifested in personalizing their mobile phones because they have begun to see this electronic equipment as an entity that is always there for them.

Another possible reason for the growing phone customization trend is with regards to the special relationship that people establish with their mobile phones. As previously mentioned, people carry their phones in almost any imaginable place, it is a constant companion to them. It becomes a natural progression of this close proximity for people to start customizing their phones to reflect their personality, mood or disposition. Putting a fashion statement is also a part of this. They want their phones to a more sartorial compliment to their wardrobes. For example, fashion conscious women would opt to change the faceplate of their phones to a color that would better match their clothes. There is even a new line of Nokia phones that are specifically aimed at “fashionistas” - complete with tasteful leather or cloth trimmings and firmer emphasis on style more than function.

Another reason that has been cited for the phone customization fad could be the simplest but no less valid - that mobile phones have become a status symbol. Much like having the latest and most popular pair of shoes - having the latest model mobile phone is a sure way of getting noticed and being acknowledged as being part of the “in” crowd. Of course, the more personalized your phone gets, the more “in” you become. For example, Paris Hilton, in an effort to both stand out and flaunt her wealth, had her mobile phone encrusted with many semi-precious stones. By doing so, she has made the ultimate personal statement and elevated the “status symbol” of mobile phones to a new level.

But for whatever reasons people may decide to personalize their mobile phones, one thing is very important. As long as you are having fun tinkering with your mobile phone’s appearance and that you are not making anything offensive to other people then go ahead and personalize to your heart’s content.

Elliptical Trainers for Weight Loss

Posted by admin on in Internet Templates Resources

Let’s face it, trying to lose weight is a bitch. So if you’re serious about losing weight and keeping the weight off, you need to exercise on a regular basis. An exercise machine that is recently surging in popularity is the elliptical trainer.

There are two factors that make an elliptical trainer so attractive. It offers low-impact exercising, and it works out both the upper and lower body simultaneously. The low impact function of an elliptical trainer reduces the strain and stress on your body, particularly your ankles, knees and lower back. Your legs work in an elliptical motion. They never leave the foot pedals and there never is any reverse action.

In contrast, when you walk or run your feet impact on every stride. For runners that impact can be as much as 2.5 times your weight. For people who are overweight, the impact from just walking can be very detrimental and result in injuries and strains. Elliptical trainers can substantially reduce the potential for injuries.

Weight Loss Benefits from Upper and Lower Body Workout

The other appealing feature of elliptical trainers is the upper and lower body workout. There are two benefits from working out your upper and lower body simultaneously. Not only do you build muscle density throughout your body, but you also burn calories more efficiently.

When you exercise on an elliptical trainer you utilize the chest, back, quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, triceps and biceps. There is no other machine that offers this benefit. You are not only exercising more muscle groups, you are also optimizing your energy expenditure. That means it takes less time to achieve more results, like burning calories and increasing your cardio capacity.

It has also been suggested by certain experts that this dual action process reduces the perceived rate of exertion. In other words, you are burning more calories without a noticeable difference from a less strenuous workout.

Of course, it is important that you apply a reasonable amount of resistance when you exercise. It is also necessary to equally divide the exercise between the upper and lower body.

There is a tendency to let your arms follow the motion of the handlebars, and let your legs absorb most of the resistance. It is important to transfer some the resistance load to your arms and distribute the exercise more evenly. This once again will result in more efficiently burning calories and reducing your weight.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to try out an elliptical trainer I suggest you get to your local health club or fitness equipment store and give it a spin. You’ll be amazed how easy they are to use, and with regular use you’ll not only reduce your weight, but keep it off.

Do You Attract The Opposite Sex ?

Posted by admin on May 30, 2008 in Beauty

All of us want to get a great mate. We want to settle for nothing less than the best of the specie. Are we having the personality to attract the opposite sex? Do we have that magnetism to pull them near us? That is a big question and once we get how to do that, the world is ours.

Let us begin with raw appeal. There is something called animal appeal. Some of us have that and some don’t. This appeal has to do with our voice tone, our walk, our talking style, our smell of the body, our body and our personality. Take care of these and you are half way through. Suppose you are a woman. You are asked to join a group of hundreds of women all standing in a queue. Then some men are allowed to view all of you. Will you beat all the women and attract attention of every man towards yourself? If you can manage that, you are a winner. Same with men.

What about understanding the personality of the opposite sex? Take a teacher. She is trained to handle many children and knows about how to teach them. Do you know some thing about how to handle the opposite sex? Have you studied about them? If not, please pick up some good guides and do that as soon as possible.

Making yourself attractive is the first requirement. Once you can do that, you will manage to get any one as your date. Good Luck.

Here’s Some Interesting Tidbits About the Annual Gift-Tax Exclusion

Posted by admin on May 29, 2008 in Finance + Capital

Here are some interesting tidbits about the annual gift tax exclusion that you should be aware of:

1. No gift taxes are imposed on the first $12,000 in gifts that you make to any person during 2006. This exclusion from federal gift taxes is known as the “annual gift tax exclusion.” This exclusion is indexed for inflation so that the amount will vary from year to year in $1,000 increments. Originally, the exclusion amount was $10,000. In 2005, the amount was increased to $11,000 and, for 2006, the amount was increased to $12,000.

2. This exclusion applies only to gifts of a present interest. In other words, the gift must have no strings attached. The recipient must be able to use and enjoy the gifted property immediately. There are certain exceptions, however, such as gifts to a 529 plan where the money will be used for future tuition payments.

3. This exclusion amount applies to every person to whom you make a gift during the year. For example, if you give $12,000 to Harry and $8,000 to Mary during 2006, no gift taxes are due. However, if you give $12,001 to Harry and $8,000 to Mary during 2006, the $1 given to Harry in excess of the annual exclusion amount is subject to the federal gift tax. (But see gift-splitting between spouses discussed below.)

4. If you make gifts to any person during a calendar year that exceed the annual gift tax exclusion (i.e., the $1 to Harry during 2006), you are required to file a federal gift tax return (Form 709) . Form 709 is required to be filed for each calendar year that a taxable gift is made, and must be filed by April 15th of the following year.

5. If you are married, both you and your spouse are entitled to the annual gift tax exclusion. Both of you could, for example, give $12,000 to, say, your daughter during 2006, for a total of $24,000, without either of you having to file a gift tax return. Think of the planning possibilities here. Assuming for the moment that you have a married daughter with two children, you and your spouse could each give your daughter, her husband, and each child $12,000 during 2006. That’s a total of $96,000 that the two of you could transfer to them gift-tax free. Remember, too, that the recipients of your gifts do not have to pay any gift taxes, or income taxes, or any other taxes on those gifts.

6. In our example above, we sort of implied that you would give $48,000 to your daughter, her husband, and their two children ($12,000 x 4) and your spouse would do the same. But, what if your spouse doesn’t have the money to give? In that case, you and your spouse could elect to treat all gifts made by either of you as made 1/2 by each of you, regardless of whom actually gave the money.

7. On further point. Gifts from one spouse to another do not fall under these annual gift tax exclusion rules. That’s because the gift tax laws totally exempt any and all gifts from one spouse to another from any gift taxes. This is known as an “unlimited marital deduction.” You should be aware, though, that there is an exception for so-called “terminable interest” gifts and there is a special limitation for gifts to spouses who are not U.S. citizens. For more information on this, please take a look at the instructions for Form 709.

Next time, we’ll discuss how you go about gifting real estate to your children and having it all come under the annual gift tax exclusion.

A Search Engine For Your Website

Posted by admin on in Marketers Center

If you have a large dynamic website (run by a content management system) with a high volume of information, implementing a search feature may increase your website’s usability and user-friendliness. Website visitors are seldom willing to browse through each section of your website, reviewing each product or service in search of satisfying their need.

But a website search engine can offer more than improving user-friendliness; it can help you enhance your web marketing strategy, and indeed your overall marketing strategy, to become a highly effective marketing tool.

By storing search queries in your database and reviewing them through your private administration area (or content management system), you can pinpoint more precisely what your website visitors are looking for when they visit your website.

This simple feature can help you:

1. Improve your Website

If you find a popular search query that is not inline with what you are able to offer, you may want to develop content that can satisfy their search in some way, rather than leaving them with a blank “No Results Found” page, leaving the visitor feeling either slightly disappointed, or so frustrated that he may look for the information a another website.

2. Improving your Website Promotion Activities

You may also find that the content you are creating is often searched for through major search engines, thus you are improving your search engine accessibility while satisfying your visitors simultaneously.

Monitoring the search queries can also tell you what kind of traffic you are attracting to your website - if the search queries are extremely inconsistent with what you have to offer, it may mean your efforts have been targeting the wrong audience and you may need to act fast if you want your website to help you achieve your objectives.

3. Improve Your Business

A search query may even lead to an exciting bright idea for a new way to grow your business; whether it be a new way to diversify through a new product or service you have discovered a market for, or improving the way you communicate your offering to customers in all your marketing communications by learning to speak their language and avoid excessive use of jargon that only you and your competitors understand.

Implementing a search feature on your website is a great way to get more from your website traffic than a mere sale or email requesting your services - they are helping you develop new ideas for your website and your business without even knowing it!

Can’t I just do my CD and DVD duplication at home?

Posted by admin on May 28, 2008 in The Technology Way

You’ve just created an mp3 audio album that you want to make CD copies of, or maybe you have a collection of home video clips you’d like to burn to DVD and pass out to your friends. As far as you know home CD album duplication and DVD duplication require just a couple of things; a computer with a burner, CD-Rs and/or DVD-Rs, and the proper software. I have all that, so why can’t I just go ahead with my home CD/DVD duplication project? Here are a couple factors to take into consideration before you jump into your disc duplication project.

1. Speed/Volume
With your home set-up, you can burn CDs and DVDs one at a time, and you have to reload the burner manually. This is fine if your disc duplication project only consists of 1-10 pieces. (CDs or DVDs) Considering that burning one disc at 24x speed takes between 3-5 minutes, to burn a large amount of discs, you’re going to have to have a lot of time set-aside. Professional disc duplication facilities use multi-drive, auto-loading machines that can burn up to 8 discs simultaneously. This cuts down on the total cost of your CD or DVD replication package, and saves you the headache.

2. Quality
In addition to a certified maximum burn speed, CD-Rs and DVD-Rs all have physical parameters and properties that must be taken into account. To get the absolute best quality out of your CD album duplication or DVD disc replication project, you must follow certain guidelines. The guidelines are explained in the “Red Book” of audio, one of a set of color-bound books that contain the technical specifications for all CD and CD-ROM formats. Most professional CD / DVD duplication / replication houses follow these guidelines, and will produce better quality discs more often than not.

By all means, this article should not stop you from duplicating your CDs and DVDs at home. This is just here to educate you a little bit more about what the big guys are doing, and why it costs a tad bit more to get your discs duplicated by them.

Jason Cole and www.DiskFaktory.com offer great tips and information regarding CD DVD Duplication, in addition to providing excellent CD and DVD duplication services. Get the information you are seeking now by visiting www.diskfaktory.com/tips/CD-duplication-tutorials.asp

Four Great Tips for Making Money on the Internet

Posted by admin on in Marketers Center

You can make money on the Internet, but you have to be patient. I’m convinced, based on my own personal experiences, that it’s next to impossible to make money fast on the Web, yet alone overnight. However, there are things you can do that will just about guarantee you make money over time.

Tip #1: Find popular keywords. Yahoo has a great little, free tool called Yahoo Keyword Selector Tool. Open it up and type in a word or phrase, and you will be able to see, almost immediately, how many people searched on that term the previous month. Keep trying words and phrases until you hit one that shows at least 10,000 searches.

Tip #2: Build a site around that keyword (or phrase) or a related term but also be sure you think about the competition. For example, the phrase “credit repair” shows a total of more than 184,000 searches. However, you have to know there are lots of big companies competing for that term. So, look down the list of related words (sometimes called the long tail of marketing). Credit repair service, credit repair services and credit repair company show a combined total of nearly 20,000 searches. So building a web site around these keywords might mean less competition.

Tip #3: Content, content, content. The search engines like Google are becoming increasingly sophisticated in terms of finding sites that offer good, helpful content. You should probably build at least 20 pages of good content around your keywords before you even go live. Then keep building more and more pages of relevant content.

Tip #4: Sign up for Google Adsense. Once you get your site up and running, go to the Google site (www.google.com/adsense) and sign up for your free account. Google will review your site over the next few hours or days. If the company believes the site is honest and provides good content for your visitors, you will be approved and can start adding Adsense click-through ads to your site. You will then need to pick an Adsense format and size. Once you do, Google will display the snippet of HTML code you need for Adsense ads. Paste this code into your site’s pages and shazam! Google ads will begin showing up on your site almost immediately. And every time one of your visitors clicks on one of these ads, you earn money.

You won’t get rich quick, but if you follow these tips, you will make money. Naturally, the amount you make will depend on how hard you work and how smart you are about about building a good Web site rich in content and geared to profitable keywords.
