Everyone has dropped their cell phone into a puddle of water. But that doesn’t render it useless. Most wet cell phones are salvageable.
First remove the battery from the device. Also, don’t turn the phone back on; this will cause the phone to short-circuit.
Take a container that can completely cover and hold the phone and fill it with the isopropyl or rubbing alcohol. Remove the battery cover and anything else that can be moved or removed to ensure all parts of the phone can be reached. While it may seem paradoxical, fully emerge the cell phone into the alcohol and allow it to soak in there for five minutes.
One may think this exacerbates the problem but with the cell phone completely dunked in the alcohol, this will draw out the water inside the phone without damaging it itself. After the five minutes, pull out the phone and allow it to dry for an hour or two. The alcohol will actually probably evaporate sooner than that, but it is better not to take any chances. Try using Q-tips to ensure every crevice is free of liquid.
Reassemble the phone, attempt to turn it on and hope for the best. If this fails to work, take a Q-tip and stick it everywhere possible to make sure there is not a single drop of alcohol left. If this still does not work, try to repeat the method, possibly submerging the phone in the alcohol for up to ten minutes the second time around.
